Regional Church aid for Canadian students

The following entities offer various forms of financial assistance to students who are pursuing seminary studies. We encourage students to explore the possibilities for support for which they might be eligible.

Note: AMBS offers matching grants for contributions made by congregations and regional churches of Mennonite Church Canada; see the Church Partnership Form. When Canadian students pay tuition and receive financial aid for tuition, Canadian dollars are at par with U.S. dollars.

Mennonite Church Canada

Fund: Company of 1,000 Study Reserve Fund
The Company of 1,000 Study Reserve Fund of Mennonite Church Canada is a forgivable loan program available for students who are preparing for ministry. In February 2020, the Existing Pastors 50-Percent Tuition-Fee Theology Scholarship Fund was established through this Study Reserve Fund so that pastors currently ministering to Mennonite Church Canada congregations who choose to take academic courses alongside their ministries can apply to have 50 percent of their tuition costs covered upon course completion. The fund covers courses taken through Conrad Grebel University College, Canadian Mennonite University, Columbia Bible College or Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary.

Mennonite Church Alberta

Mennonite Church Alberta bursaries are available to AMBS students who are from Mennonite Church Alberta congregations.

Mennonite Church British Columbia

The MCBC Pastors' Bursary is specifically for students who are serving in a pastoral role in a congregation of MCBC at the time of their studies.

Mennonite Church Eastern Canada

MCEC funds are available for seminary students from MCEC congregations. This scholarship is administered through AMBS Admissions and Financial Aid.

Mennonite Church Manitoba

Abram G. Neufeld Bursary Fund: This fund is for people with Manitoba connections preparing for pastoral or missionary training.
Johan Funk Loan Fund: These are no-interest loans for students pursuing ministry training — up to $1,500 per year to a maximum of $3,000.
Jake and Dorothy Pauls Fund: This bursary provides financial assistance to persons who are currently serving in a congregational ministry setting and who wish to do further study or continuing education at a post-secondary Mennonite institution.

Mennonite Church Saskatchewan

Jacob Andres Achievement Scholarship

Education was a passion for Jacob Andres, a long-time teacher at Rosthern Junior College in Rosthern, Saskatchewan. He especially longed to promote and encourage students to pursue church-based education. To further this cause he established an endowment fund to provide scholarships for students from the four western provinces of Canada, including British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

Guidelines for selection of scholarship recipients:

• The student is entering the second or subsequent year of studies.
• The student considers one of the four western provinces of Canada his or her home.
• The student, in the opinion of the school’s Scholarship and Bursary Committee or equivalent group, meets the following criteria outlined by Jacob Andres prior to his death: 50 percent academic excellence; 50 percent positive Christian character or service (financial need may be a deciding factor).
• The scholarship may be given to the same student in more than one consecutive year.
