Summary

Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary (AMBS), Elkhart, Indiana, is hiring a full-time professor of Biblical Studies to start July 1, 2021. Rank is open (assistant, associate or full professor) based on experience and record. We are seeking a dynamic teacher and scholar with expertise in Old Testament or New Testament studies and competence to teach in the other testament. Preferred qualifications: PhD or equivalent, the ability to inspire students in face-to-face and online learning environments, intercultural competency and commitment to undoing racism, and preparedness to critically and constructively engage the biblical, theological and hermeneutical issues facing the church and world today. AMBS offers an MDiv with several concentrations, academic MA degrees in theology/peace studies and theology/global Anabaptism, and a professional MA in Christian formation. The successful candidate will teach students in all degree programs, will be able to advocate appreciatively and critically for Anabaptist and Mennonite theological perspectives while being conversant with other contemporary theological movements, and will contribute to AMBS community life through academic advising, governance participation, and constituency assignments. Responsibilities and duties

This candidate will be expected to:

  • Teach effectively in the area of biblical studies (Old Testament or New Testament specialization) in face-to-face, hybrid, and online environments
  • Advocate appreciatively and critically for Anabaptist and Mennonite theological perspectives while being conversant with other contemporary theological movements
  • Critically and constructively engage the biblical, theological and hermeneutical issues facing the church and the world
  • Advise and serve students as they progress towards completion of MA and MDiv degrees
  • Contribute to AMBS’s community life through scholarly research, regular worship, faculty committee assignments, community activities, and constituency assignments

Qualifications and skills

  • Terminal degree (e.g., PhD) preferred with expertise in Old Testament or New Testament studies and competence to teach in the other testament
  • Competence in contextualizing biblical texts historically and theologically
  • Ability to integrate historical, hermeneutical, and theological issues
  • Personal commitment to Christian faith and discipleship, to Anabaptist‐Mennonite values and to the church as a witness to the gospel of Jesus Christ
  • A theological vision that includes peacemaking, justice, healing and reconciliation as central to God’s reconciling mission
  • Post-secondary teaching experience preferred
  • Ability to inspire students in face-to-face and online learning environments
  • Ability to appropriately navigate cultural differences and other diversity
  • Commitment to undoing racism and/or similar initiatives require
